Quick Summary
Beyond the Coast collects only the personal data needed to run this site: email addresses if you subscribe to our newsletter, purchase data if you buy our digital travel guide, and standard analytics data about how visitors use the site. We use trusted third-party services (MailerLite, Gumroad, Google, and affiliate partners such as Booking.com, Viator, GetYourGuide, and Sandals Resorts) to operate these features, and each of them processes data under its own privacy policy. We never sell your personal data. You can ask us at any time to see, correct, or delete the data we hold about you — details below.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Beyond the Coast (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects when you visit beyondthecoast.world (the “Site”), why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. This policy applies to all visitors, subscribers, and customers of the Site.
1. Who We Are
Beyond the Coast is a travel content website created and operated by Őz Enikő, an independent content creator based in Hungary. For any privacy-related question, you can reach out directly at beyondthecoast88@gmail.com.
For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), Beyond the Coast acts as the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
2. What Personal Data We Collect
We collect personal data in the following ways:
- Information you give us directly — your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, submit the contact form, or leave a comment on an article.
- Purchase information — if you buy our digital travel guide, your name, email, and payment confirmation are processed by our payment provider, Gumroad, Inc. We do not see or store your card details.
- Automatically collected information — your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring site, and approximate location, collected through cookies and analytics tools when you browse the Site.
- Cookie and tracking data — used to remember your preferences, measure site performance, and track outbound clicks to our affiliate partners.
We do not knowingly collect any special category data (e.g., health, religion, political opinions) and we ask that you do not include such information in comments or contact form messages.
3. How We Use Your Data and Our Legal Basis
| Purpose | Legal Basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Sending you our newsletter and travel tips | Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) |
| Delivering a digital product you purchased | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Operating, securing, and improving the Site | Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Analytics and understanding site usage | Your consent, via cookie banner (Art. 6(1)(a)) |
| Affiliate tracking (measuring referred bookings) | Your consent, via cookie banner (Art. 6(1)(a)) |
| Responding to your contact form message | Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
We never use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Like most websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to make the Site work and to understand how it is used. We group them as follows:
- Strictly necessary cookies — required for core site functionality (e.g., remembering your cookie preferences). These do not require consent.
- Analytics cookies — help us understand which pages are popular and how visitors navigate the Site, via Google Site Kit / Google Analytics. These are only set with your consent.
- Affiliate and advertising cookies — set when you click a link to one of our affiliate partners (see Section 6), so that partner can attribute a booking or sale to us. These are only set with your consent.
We use CookieYes to manage cookie consent on this Site. When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept, reject, or customize non-essential cookies. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking “Cookie Settings” in the footer of any page. You can also block cookies directly through your browser settings, though this may affect how parts of the Site function.
5. Affiliate Links and Third-Party Services
Beyond the Coast participates in affiliate marketing programs, including with Booking.com, Viator, GetYourGuide, and Sandals Resorts. This means that if you click on certain links on our Site and make a booking or purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Clicking these links may set a tracking cookie so the partner can attribute the transaction to us. Once you leave our Site through one of these links, that partner’s own privacy policy and terms apply to any information you provide to them — we do not receive your payment or booking details.
Our editorial recommendations are based on independent research and, where noted, personal travel experience. Affiliate relationships never determine which destinations, hotels, or experiences we recommend. For more detail, see our Affiliate Disclosure page.
6. Email Newsletter (MailerLite)
If you subscribe to our newsletter, the email address (and, where applicable, name) you provide is stored and processed by our email service provider, MailerLite Limited, acting as our data processor. We use this data solely to send you the content you signed up for (travel tips, guides, and occasional offers) and, where relevant, to deliver a specific resource you requested (such as our free packing checklist).
Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time, free of charge, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before your withdrawal. MailerLite’s own privacy practices are described at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
7. Digital Product Purchases (Gumroad)
If you purchase our digital travel guide, the transaction is processed entirely by Gumroad, Inc., which acts as an independent data controller for payment and billing information (including your card details, billing address, and purchase history). We only receive confirmation of your purchase, your email address, and your name, which we use to provide customer support if needed. Gumroad’s privacy policy is available at gumroad.com/privacy.
8. Embedded Content From Other Websites
Articles on this Site may include embedded content (for example, videos, maps, or social media posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited that other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
9. Analytics
We use Google Site Kit to monitor site performance and understand how visitors use the Site (pages visited, time on site, general geographic region, and referral source). This data is aggregated and does not directly identify you. It is only collected once you have consented to analytics cookies via our cookie banner. You can find out more about how Google handles this data at policies.google.com/privacy.
10. Data Sharing and Third-Party Processors
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share personal data only with the following categories of trusted service providers, strictly to operate the Site and its features:
- MailerLite Limited — email newsletter delivery
- Gumroad, Inc. — digital product sales and payment processing
- Google LLC — website hosting tools, analytics, and search performance (Site Kit)
- CookieYes — cookie consent management
- Our web hosting provider
- Affiliate partners (Booking.com, Viator, GetYourGuide, Sandals Resorts) — only once you click through to their site
Each of these providers is contractually required to handle your data securely and only for the purposes we’ve authorized.
11. International Data Transfers
Some of the providers listed above (including Google, MailerLite, and Gumroad) may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognized under GDPR, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the provider’s certification under an approved data protection framework.
12. Data Retention
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy: newsletter data for as long as you remain subscribed, purchase data for as long as required by applicable tax and accounting law, and comment/contact form data for as long as needed to respond to and resolve your query, after which it is deleted or anonymized.
13. Your Rights Under GDPR
If you are located in the European Economic Area (or another jurisdiction with similar protections), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete your personal data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Port your data to another service in a machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, email us at beyondthecoast88@gmail.com. We will respond within one month, as required by law. If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — for Hungary, this is the Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (NAIH).
14. Children’s Privacy
This Site is intended for adults planning travel and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
15. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including secure hosting, restricted access, and reputable third-party processors — to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
17. Contact Us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your personal data, please contact us at beyondthecoast88@gmail.com.
